Artist Statement

My current work contains harsh angles and geometrical shapes, which makes these organic-based sculptures look anything but organic. My work shifts from vulnerable to powerful as I base my sculptures on delicate forms, sharpen them, and use steel. Using color, shapes, and depth allows me to create pieces that push the limits of natural form. My work touches on the ideas of gender stereotypes and identity. I often think of people compared to nature, how we are beautiful, imperfect, and similar in ways, but each has unique features like an individual flower. As an abstract artist, I embrace the viewer's subjective response, allowing my work to reflect differently for each person.

My art journey started with painting as I valued the individual strokes of paint blending to create a piece. After some time, I fell in love with sculpture. The endless possibilities and the act of 3D forms invading the space inspired me. I translated my experience with painting into my sculpture work by carefully putting each piece together the way I would with strokes of paint, designing a distinct creation, and allowing the materials to guide my process.

I draw passion from the world around me and use it to express feelings and thoughts within a work of art. When I think of nature, I think of the imperfect balance. Each petal is unique while also uniform. Flowers are a subject I often revisit in my work, translating the delicate forms in various ways.
